"OK, repeat after me: Hola."

"Holey."

"Geez, you are impossible!"

We all love Hunk, but well, he's not a very good teacher. The student giving him the most problems is the one you'd least expect: Pidge.

"I don't get it. How can you know everything there is to know about the Castle's computer systems forwards, backwards, and sideways, but you struggle so much with simple Spanish?" Hunk asked, massaging his temples in an effort to curtail his frustration.

Pidge shrugged. "I dunno," he said in his annoying-as-usual nasal whine, while pushing the large, round glasses back onto the bridge of his nose. "Why do I have to learn such an archaic Terran language?"

"Because," Lance said as he walked in the pilot's lounge, "it's Cinco de Mayo! And KittyCaro would love to see all of you at the celebration!"

"Geez, all these celebrations and parties!" Pidge exclaimed. "That does kind of make me glad the Kitties are around now... there've been all kinds of balls, dances, and fun going on! And of course, well, um...." Pidge began to blush.

"Uh oh, could sweet wittle Pidgey Widgey Woo have a crush on one of the Kitty Witties?" Lance said, in his best big-aunt-Bertha voice.

"Well..." Pidge now looked like a traffic light: red on top, green on bottom. If he had been holding something yellow, it would've been complete. As Pidge finally returned to a somewhat normal color, he said, "Caro has always been nice to me, and who can forget St. Patrick's Day... and to think you guys turned them down!" Pidge suddenly stood up in a moment of divine inspiration. "I'm gonna do it." He snatched the Spanish book out of Hunk's hands, a very brave gesture in the face of Hunk's jealousy. He still quite wasn't over that whole leprecaun debacle. "I'm gonna learn this silly language, so I can finally be in on all the fun!" he stated proudly, and quickly ran off to his room to immerse himself in one of the ancient Romantic languages.

"My, he's gotten bold," Lance commented.

"Yes... yes, he has," Hunk agreed.

Meanwhile, in the Royal Kitchen...

Keith had commandeered the kitchen for his own use... actually, he had begged on his knees to be able to use it. Nanny had been reluctant of course, ever since the incident with Pidge setting Nanny's biscuits on fire... and Nanny not being able to understand why the Voltron Force laughed when she said, "Ack! My biscuits are burning!"

KittyLynne poked her head in the kitchen. "Hey good lookin', what'cha got cookin?" she asked.

"Oh, nothing much, just making some menudo for the Cinco de Mayo cleebration," Keith replied.

"Menudo? Sounds delicious."

"It is. It's toted as a stew with some interesting qualities... some swear by it as a cure for all sorts of things, even hangovers," Keith explained, as studious as ever.

KittyLynne sniffed the contents of the saucepan. "It smells wonderful, too! I can't wait to taste it."

"You know, this is one of Hunk's favorite foods, well, besides cheesecake of course, " Keith added. "KittyCaro gave him the recipe a while back, when he had that cold, and he swears that it cured his cold."

Just then, Hunk entered the kitchen, entranced by the aroma of the menudo.

"Well, speak of the devil!" KittyLynne giggled.

"Keith..." Hunk said softly. "By any chance is that... menudo?" he whispered.

"Yes it is, and no, not until the celebration tonight," Keith said sternly. "I'd like to have some available for the rest of the partygoers."

"Geez," Hunk grumbled, "now I know why Nanny and you get along so well."

KittyLynne let out another soft giggle. "Well, I'd better go see what KittyShannon and KittyCaro are plot--er, planning," she said dantily with a very evil grin. And with that, she excused herself from the kitchen.

That night...

The celebration started without a hitch. In fact, everyone was enjoying themselves quite well. All the guests were dressed in traditional Mexican garb, including the guests of honor, the Kitties. The Hunk Club's membership was out in full force, including one young man with auburn hair, deep brown eyes, and a dreamy grin who carried a notepad around. He knew something of interest would happen... and he wanted to be there to capture the moment in words.

"And now," Hunk said, "our own friend, señor Pidge, has something to say."

Hoots and hollers accompanied the young man to the microphone. After adjusting the mic for his height, he cleared his throat and began. He began to speak Spanish sweet nothings in as native of an accent as he could, as the brassy music from the mariachi band played softly under it.

"Sus ojos son como caballos. Brillan en la piscina."

KittyCaro chuckled. Pidge continued, blissfully unaware.

"Usted tiene la nariz de un mono. Va perfectamente con sus yemas de huevo."

Now even Lance and Hunk, who only knew a smattering of Spanish were beginning to laugh. The young man mentioned earlier was furiously writing down verbatim what Pidge was saying, fighting back tears of laughter, just like the Kitties.

"Deseo llevarle al queso y sostener usted tiene gusto de un loro. Espero que usted desee matarme también."

Anyone and everyone that knew any Spanish, including the band, could not suppress the laughter anymore. The music had stopped. The young man passed a piece of notebook paper to Pidge. It read:

You might want to hit the books more...
Someone's eyes are like horses'. They shine in the pool.
They have the nose of a monkey that go well with egg yolks.
You want to take this person to the cheese and hold them like a parrot, and you
hope they will kill you in return. Which is not far from the truth.
--D.

Pidge once again did an impersonation of a stop light, this time crumpling the yellow sheet of paper in his hands. Needless to say, the Spanish book was used as target practice.

After the guests regained their composure, Hunk took KittyCaro to a secluded table, far from the prying eyes of his friends.

Hunk gently took KittyCaro's right hand and kissed it. "Cuando sus ojos brillan en el claro de luna, son piscinas que relucir de la calma en la tormenta. Su cara compara a ningún otra en belleza. Su mente es libremente, enérgia, e inteligente. Sus labios..." Hunk wasted no more time on words and caught Caro up in a timeless kiss that neither would soon forget.

"Feliz Cinco de Mayo, Minina Querida."
