Question: What's you favorite Hunk scene/episode from the series?

KittyCaro: My favorite scene is when he jumps into his horse and goes after Twyla. I believed that her beauty and helplessness captivated him. Unfortunately, we soon learn that she had been sent by Hagar to cause harm. But in spite of his broken heart, he still wanted to give her a chance to explain herself. (A Pretty Spy episode #9 DOTU)

Question: What's the thing/quality you admire most about Hunk?

KittyCaro: That he might be a wonderful example of brawn and fearlessness, but his most beautiful muscle is his heart.

Question: Why did you help in founding HRH?

KittyCaro: Check out my answer in the Hunkateers section!

HRH asks: What was the first anime you ever watched? (Did you know it was anime at the time?)

KittyCaro answers: It was Sombrita or Shadow Boy (Boken Shonen Shadar) when I was about six or seven years old. But I didn’t know it was Japanese Anime because it was shown in Spanish.

HRH: Was there something specific that prompted your interest in anime?

KC: At first, I fell in love with their characters with huge eyes, great hair in a rainbow of colors, dressed in great uniforms or costumes. Also that they were brave, invincible, some with magical powers or a special talent, and rode space ships, huge robots or great cars. But then as I got older, I became interested in science fiction, Roman and Greek mythology and Japanese history and legends, and realized that anime includes these themes.

HRH: What's your current favorite anime movie/series (or both)?

KC: I have many favorites: Candy Candy, Voltron, Robotech, Ronin Warriors, Gundam Wing, Fushigi Yugi, and more recently, Inuyasha.

HRH: What's your all-time favorite anime movie/series (or both)?

KC: Candy Candy and Voltron.

Hunk asks: And who's the Hunk-iest anime guy around / Who's the hottest anime babe around? (And what anime series are they from?)

KC: (Blushes) Oh, Cuddly Bear, I can’t answer that while you’re looking at me!

But seriously, there are so many hunks in anime that I have decided on my first crush: Keith, Commander of the Voltron Force. Don’t get me wrong, I love the entire team (even Lotor!) but Keith was the first one that caught my attention, with his huge brown eyes, long dark hair, and his red uniform and white boots.

HRH: What anime character do you relate to or consider yourself most like (and what series are they from)? What is it about him/her that you relate to/consider like you?

KC: I would like to consider myself like Patty O’Brien from Candy Candy, who became a great friend of Candy during her stay in England. She’s kind, sweet and intelligent; she’s also a worrywart and shy. But when Candy wasn’t around to defend her from their enemies, she found a inner strength and was able to fend them off.

HRH: Who's your favorite anime hero (and what series are they from)? Why?

KC: My favorite heroine is Candy White (Candy Candy), because even though she was an orphan living in America in the early 1900’s, with everything and everyone going against her, she became a nurse and found happiness.

HRH: Who's your favorite anime villain (and what series are they from)? Why?

KC: Prince Lotor from Voltron and Anubis Warlord of Darkness from Ronin Warriors, because they prove that evil can have gorgeous faces and eerie laughs ;-)

HRH: Who's your favorite anime character of all time (and what series are they from) Why?

KC: William Albert Audrey from Candy Candy. He’s tall, blond, blue-eyed, handsome, brave and super rich, but prefers to disguise himself and live as a drifter doing odd jobs, always protecting Candy from evil.

HRH: Is there any one anime that really made an impact on you? Which anime, and what was the impact?

KC: Robotech, because it was the first anime that I watched for an older audience. It dealt with the futility of war, intolerance, death (Roy), a love triangle (Lisa, Rick and Ming May), a marriage between an earthling and an alien (Max and Miriya), and the ethical and moral issues of cloning (Zor Prime).

HRH: Do you collect anime stuff? (Like videos, DVD's, toys books, etc.) What kinds of things and from which anime(s)?

KC: I have some episodes of CandyCandy, Voltron, Robotech, Sakura Card Captors, Ronin Warriors in Spanish. And a very good friend sent me videos of Voltron, Gundam Wing and Fushigi Yugi in English. I have downloaded pics from various websites for my private anime collection. And I used to have a Pikachu atop my CPU, but I gave it to my nephew.

HRH: Is writing/drawing a hobby for you, or is it something that you would like to pursue (or are pursuing) professionally?

KC: It’s a hobby that helps me improve my English skills and learn more about anime and other subjects.

HRH: Do you have a favorite (published) author? If so, who and what is it that you enjoy about their writing?

KC: I like romance novels, and one of my favorite authors is Kathleen E. Woodwiss, because her heroines are beautiful, strong, smart and independent.

HRH: Do you have a favorite artist? If so, who and what is it that you enjoy about their artwork?

KC: Well, my favorite is Zejan the Wonder Monkey, because in my humble opinion her renditions of the Voltron gang are the closest to the original.

HRH: What's your favorite book or series of books?

KC: A Rose in Winter by Kathleen E. Woodwiss.

HRH: What's your favorite movie?

KC: I like many movies, but if I had to choose one it would be Moonstruck with Cher and Nicholas Cage, because it depicts a close-knit Italian family, that’s passionate, smart, funny, and protective, just like any Latin family.

HRH: What's your favorite TV show (non-anime/cartoon)?

KC: What is Jeopardy? I’m a game show buff.

HRH: We don't want to pry into anyone's personal/real life, but we'd really love to hear more about you - is there anything you'd like to share with us? We'd love it if you'd tell us a little bit about yourself...

There are lots of things you could tell us about yourself, like...

Are you a student? What are you studying?

KC: No, I’m not studying at this moment, but I would like to learn to speak French (I just bought French for Dummies)

HRH: What's your profession? (Job title?)

KC: I work as an administrative assistant for my brother, who has an Electrical Engineering Firm.

HRH: Outside of anime what kinds of interests/hobbies do you have?

KC: Walking, listening to music, watching old movies on TV, baking, knitting, latch hook, sewing, and if I’m the mood, making Halloween and Christmas ornaments of felt.

HRH: We know that you've written fan fics about the series Voltron, are there any other series that you write fics about?

KC: I’ve written one about Ronin Warriors, pairing Anubis and Mia, and another about CandyCandy, pairing Albert and Candy.

Hunk asks: What's your favorite snack/drink to have when you're writing/drawing?

KC: I like to drink Coca-Cola. Snacks can include green apples, oranges, Japanese peanuts, Ritz crackers, or Hershey’s kisses.

HRH: What about writing/drawing do you find the most challenging? Why?

KC: Describing battle scenes, I’m not comfortable writing about them, and not because I don’t like violence, but how many different ways can you write that Voltron used his blazing sword to cut a robeast in half?

HRH: What about writing/drawing do you find the most fun? Why?

KC: When I write, ‘The End’ because that means I can go on to the next fic.

HRH: Where do you find your inspiration?

KC: Old movies, documentaries, books, classical music and real life.

HRH: What was it that made you want to write fanfics and/or draw fanart?

KC: The series’ handling of ‘romantic’ pairings (Keith&Allura, Anubis&Mia and Albert&Candy) the fics are the perfect vehicle to give your own version. What can I say, I’m a romantic.

HRH: As a writer, who (or what) influences your work? Why?

KC: Family, friends, and the readers who had been kind enough to send me their comments, criticisms, and ideas.

HRH: There are so many different writing techniques, maybe you start with an outline, or maybe you just start writing and see where the story goes. Would you tell us a little bit about your writing technique/style?

KC: I always start with an outline. Then I write about four or five drafts on which I develop the characters, their motivations, scenery, etc. And I try to do my writing in the evenings, while listening to music- from classical to pop rock, depending on the mood.

HRH: Likewise, many writers just have characters "appear" - some spend months creating their characters. How do you develop characters?

KC: I spend a few weeks creating a secondary character for a fic, starting with the name, job title/profession, link to the main characters (is it a relative, friend, or enemy?) and his/her scenes.

HRH: Does your real life, or do your real life experiences, affect your writing/drawing? How?

KC: Yes, because I include some events that happened to me at school, work, home, etc., and try to give them some sense of closure.

HRH: If you could offer one piece of advice to new fan fic writers and/or fan art artists, what would that advice be?

KC: Don’t worry about writer’s block, because you could find the solution in the place you least expect it.

Wondering what some of the other HRHers are saying about KittyCaro's work? Check it out below...

Okay, some thoughts. First of all, I think Caro is a sweetheart. Whenever I posted stories to KAEX, I often got responses from her to say that she was enjoying my work. That always encouraged me to know that someone out there was reading what I was writing.

I've read several of her stories, and have always been entertained by them. My favorite piece by her? Actually, it's located right on HRH! Her Halloween Story (The Golden Coins) was the first piece of fiction I sat and read through from start to finish in one night. (well...maybe it was two nights.....I'm a slow reader.) I thought this story had a lot of elements that Caro brings to much of her work. One of those main elements is that, I learn something from reading her work.

I for one, think that's amazing. This is a piece of fiction, which most of us regard as just entertainment, but I often walk away with some new bit of knowledge. That, to me, marks the sign of a good writer. She not only entertains, but educates as well.

Caroline's stories have often brought a smile to my face. I'm very glad that she's decided to share them with us all. -- Turbo

Very notable in Caroline's fics was the influence of the elements of her culture and traditional beliefs --- very similar to our culture, actually, which I found quite unexpected when applied to the characters at Voltron. Who would have thought it was possible for Keith to throw caution in the winds be expressive? Lance was classy and honorable underneath a bad-boy exterior and those brown bangs. They were the traditional ideal of men! She made it work, somehow, I found the ideas appealing.

Incorporating a set of beliefs in stories have been used a lot in various Voltron fanfics, but most fans who do that saddle characters with the usual pagan mythic stuff (admittedly, I also lean towards that a bit). This is what makes her fics familiar yet different. Caroline's idea and style is most unique, the storybook tale feel is unmistakeable even in scenes most serious.

The tone set most of the time was serious and leaning towards angst -- but not too overwhelming, with touches of humor (Lotor with Barney! *hyuk, hyuk*). It was refreshing to see the male characters show a little... um, machismo (actually I'm thinking of a shorter, more effective word... but never mind) for a change. They went and said something! They did something! They were the men we wished they sometimes were. :) -- Neogorbash

Oh man! I haven't been saying anything about anyone! I've been so bad! I deserve to have my cheesecake privileges revoked.

(eying Hunk slipping past with an armful of cheesecakes)

Hey - I didn't mean RIGHT NOW!

Anyways, I've read at least a few Kitty[Caro]'s fics, and I like, I like. They be good, and a good break from K&A fics.

(glancing at Hunk)

Can I have at least ONE cheesecake now? -- Lady Akira

~*~

I've known Caroline for a few years now, and I've watched her writing style mature and blossom. I have some of her earlier works at my site (in the LIKE Archives) and a couple of her newer fics (at the S'Mellee Zone) and the difference is striking. She's always been good at plotting, but her newer fics are so much richer in terms of character development and writing style. One thing I really appreciate about Caroline is that she's quite open-minded when it comes to pairing characters off. She's done at least one Lance/Allura, a Sven/Allura, Keith/Allura, Sven/Romelle (my favorite), and I think even a Lotor/Allura. (And she paired me off with Lance once, which was very sweet! ^__^ ) Allura and Romelle are always strong, but still quite elegant in her renderings, which is nice. -- Rach

~*~

There are many reasons I enjoy Caro's fanfiction, but in the interest of space, I will only elaborate on few key ones here.

I think my favorite thing about Caro's writing is the passion, grit and sensuality she infuses into her characters' personas. I like that she stays true to the canon personas, but also puts her own mark on them with detailed backgrounds, subtle personality quirks.

I also like the fact that nothing is cut and dried in her fics...for example; her heroes do have definite dark sides, and her villians aren't always as bad as they seem to be. Along with that, I have to interject here that Caro has a way of writing Prince Lotor that I find completely irresistable. I am most certainly not a fan of Lotor and Allura pairings, but if it's a Lotor/Allura fic written by Caro...well, I can't help but read it- she's the only fanfic writer so far that's been able to make that pairing convincing for me.

Lastly, I wanted to say that I find it amazing that Caro can write with excellence in not one, but *two* languages! Someday I hope to become proficient enough with my Spanish to be able to fully enjoy all of her fics, Spanish and English alike. :)

Keep up the great writing mi amiga... you know I'll keep reading! :D -- KittyLynne

~*~

My goodness, what hasn’t already been said? *smiles warmly*

*KS Scratches behind one ear as she considers what she wants to say*

I suppose the fact that I’m sitting her trying to think of something that hasn’t already been said says an awful lot about Caro and her writing.

Caroline has to be one of the sweetest and kindest people I’ve ever known - she is an absolute doll. As for her writing, it’s always wonderful! She does a great job with the characters - they feel more like real people than characters on a page. All of her characters have rich, full personalities, and she does a wonderful job with conveying their thoughts and emotions. As for her plots, it’s the same - I find myself drawn into the story, anxious for the next chapter.

One of the things that impresses me the most about Caro’s abilities is that English isn’t her first language and yet she writes so well and so beautifully in it. I have no idea how she’s able to do that - it’s yet another testament to just how talented and intelligent our darling KittyCaro really is. :) -- KittyShan

And there you have it! :) And while you're here, check out KC's fanfics, you can find several - some in the Behind the Scenes at HRH Section, some in the Fanfic Excerpts section and some in both the Hunk fanfic and Members' Fanfics Sections! (Boy that KittyCaro is a busy girl! :D)

The Following is an Excerpt from one of KC's fics:

They had been dating for almost four months. Their relationship had started out of mutual admiration for their work with children and, truth to be told their love for food. But now they couldn't live without each other.

"There's a storm coming," he told her, "you can feel it in the air."

She smiled. "Oh I hope you're right. It hasn't snowed in more than five years," she said with glee. "I love playing in the snow,"

"Maybe we could go to Lake Maane for some skiing," he suggested.

"I don't know how to sky," she grumbled. "I prefer to throw snowballs or flop on the white stuff and make snow angels."

He chuckled softly. "Me too," he said, kissing her right temple.

Just as they were about to cross the magnificent bridge leading to the castle, an elderly man pulled a cart overflowing with children in front of them. They waved at them and giggled.

"Goodbye Hunk! Goodbye Annie!" they cried.

Hunk wriggled his fingers in return, and crossed his eyes at them. The children shrieked with delight until the man told them to hush. Annie eyed the pilot of Yellow Lion tenderly and he leaned down until his mouth was close to her ear.

"I love children," he whispered. His breath was warm against her neck and he seemed to linger there a moment, the stubble of his beard scraping her. Annie remained still, caught up in the spell of his nearness.

"I'm sure that when you were a little boy, all the kids follow you around," she told him admiringly.

His smiled faded. "I was too big," he said sadly, "and they were afraid of me, because sometimes I couldn't control my strength."

Her throat tightened as she imagined him a little boy, awkward in a too large body, playing by himself. She wanted to kiss that little boy's brow and soothe his ruffled dark hair. Annie slid her hand into his much larger one. She saw the surprise on his face as he lifted their clasped fingers.

She reached out and caressed his cheek. "You're very special to me, Jonathan," she said in a whispery tone.
